The 7th ward is one of our favorite neighborhoods in New Orleans. It's the first home to free people of color in the city and is an historically rich African- American neighborhood.
The home is a traditional double shot-gun that we kept in the original two unit configuration. We only used sustainable or reclaimed wood in the entire renovation — opting for reclaimed wood for all the trim and counter tops and sustainable new growth pine for the floors in the owner's unit.
The front windows of the house were restored after decades of being covered up- the windows are framed with reclaimed cypress which was typical of wood trim when shotguns in the 7th ward were built. We also used plaster techniques on the walls to give the home an historic feel.
